I picked out this specimen at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show from a dealer from India. It is from the Aurangabad District. This specimen measures about 3 x 5 inches and weighs 1 pound and 2 ounces. Question by Angel S: What is the process in which gemstones are polished and shined?
I collect gemstones that are colored (naturally) polished and shined. what is the process they go through to get that way. Or if you have a link to go to that would be helpful.

Lots of rocks and semi-precious gemstones are processed with a tumbler using different grades of abrasives to smooth them to a rounded and polished surface.

This is not what you'd do with precious stones like diamond or rubies though. That would involve cutting facets and polishing individual faces.
